Since the 1990s, the American Society of Clinical Oncology has developed and published clinical practice guidelines, provisional clinical opinions, and guideline endorsements. ASCO guidelines provide evidence-based recommendations to serve as a guide for doctors and outline appropriate methods of treatment and care. The guidelines can also address specific clinical situations (disease-oriented) or use of approved medical products, procedures, or tests (modality-oriented). Multidisciplinary panels of experts, including patient advocates, develop ASCO’s clinical practice guidelines.
